Bug Out Bag

This is going to make me look like a paranoid nut, but:

Both of us have a backpack for emergencies. Between the two of us, we have:
  • satellite phone
  • spare chargers
  • medications
  • important papers (kept separately in file cabinet to grab and go)
  • old school address book
  • road atlas
  • credit cards
  • a bit of cash
  • spare dog leash/collar
  • protein bars/small bag of dog food
  • encrypted drives with various photos, docs, etc.
  • common toiletries
  • notepad & pens
Each car has an emergency kit that gets beefed up during winter:
  • first aid kit
  • basic tools
  • emergency mylar blankets
  • magnetic emergency flashers
  • flashlights
  • batteries
  • small, battery-powered AM/FM radio
  • matches & lighter
  • large notebook (to help start fires)
  • snow chains
  • small shovel
  • ice scraper and de-icer spray
  • candles
  • large container of cat litter
If it really hits the fan (such as a Cascadia event), we also have food and water for three people and our dog, enough to last about 4-5 weeks.

TBH I'm surprised how unprepared people are for even the most basic of emergencies. I'm not LDS/Mormon, but they have very practical, solid advice about being prepared.

Thanks for your sharing and it is informative for me. I like your sharing and I will follow these tips and collect all the things in first aid kit. These are most important things for every home.

Just make sure you only carry what you know how to use otherwise you waste space and create more weight than needed.
