Being in a rural area, there are a lot of elderly folks and families in need. There are few jobs, too.

SNAP benefits many of these people, without those benefits, people go hungry.

Letting kids go hungry IMO is evil and nothing more...

But I get that SNAP gets abused and that shouldn't happen. But taking away to punish all for some who abuse isn't right.

How do you all feel about these benefits being held in the air above the citizens out of hand's reach by our politics?

So I currently live in s small area and jobs are limited so I get that. I, myself, use food stamps BUT I am citizen and I have a job. I make just enough to qualify for SNAP. It's nice and its an ease of mind, it just helps me get by. I do think SNAP should be used for HEALTHY food, not candy, soda, and other junk food.

This is a Democrat shut down through and through and of course they want to blame Trump, why else? However there are several things wrong with blaming Trump... (1) Trump has no say or vote in the congressional votes, so that is just the blame game (2) In 2012 Obama stated that Congress should never take American Citizens Hostage no matter the context of what financial vote they can't agree on (the left would call every buzz word they call Trump today). (3) Republicans have now 13 times to try and vote to get fed workers paid regardless of the shutdown, guess who voted no? Yep, Democrats. I just wish Democrats were still Liberals, not Marxist. Coming from me, a long time voted Liberal...

Just because I voted Trump and Republicans for the first time ever--it doesn't mean I need to defend him. He can defend himself. I see what I see, I'm allowed an independent opinion after what I see.

I've seen arguments on both sides. One screams, 'Don't let people buy steaks and seafood with SNAP.' Then another said, 'Don't let them buy junk food.'

My argument is, what should they buy then? How how can you determine junk? My DR is going to tell me that the pizza and burgers I eat are bad for me when I go in a few weeks over my high blood pressure. If that's the case, then SNAP shouldn't cover that, either, right?

I just have issues with who gets to decide what's good for me or not.

We don't get snap. We make just over the amopunt. However, during COVID, we received a SNAP card from the school district when my daughter was in high school because it was all remote, and they weren't providing meals, obviously. We definitely used it and bought food. However, the district provided that benefit to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.

My fiancee became disabled this year and finally got on it for it to go into limbo due to the children in congress, what a world we live in...
