Branding free options - worth the cost?

If you purchase a vBulletin 6 license, you have the option of paying an additional $289 for a non-branded version. If you're keen on Xenforo, you'll have to pay a whopping $350 for it.

Do you see any real value in branding-free forum software? If so, what? I can understand if you're a large company and don't want to advertise for someoone else, but for everyday "Average Joe" forums, I just don't get it.

I've never understood branding-free options.

Who's getting on forums and racing down to the footer to say "Oh, it's vBulletin, I'm not using this site" LOL

I guess if people have to have that space free... But again, I doubt most of their members and visitors are looking at the footer.

Maybe the first software that came up with that idea was wondering how they could make more money from someone!
