Phone insurance

If yes, have you ever had to use it? Did it pay for the whole phone?

No! I don't have phone insurance. The only thing I use is my smartphone warranty. I've had to use it once some years ago when the phone's screen suddenly went black. I took it back and they fixed it. I didn't pay a dime for the repair.

I've always felt like insurance for the phone was a rip off.

It's 100% a rip off. If you use your smartphone with care, it should be in a good shape for 2-3 or even more without needing one repair.
